Top-Ranked Players, Major Champions and LPGA Tour Winners highlight field at Merit Club
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 22, 2016 — The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) confirmed today the final field of 32 players who will represent the eight countries in the UL International Crown to be held July 19-24 at Merit Club in Gurnee, Ill.
Four players who qualified for their respective country teams based on their Rolex Ranking at the conclusion of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be unable to compete due to injury or schedule conflict.
The Republic of Korea’s Inbee Park withdrew due to a thumb injury and will be replaced by So Yeon Ryu who competed alongside Park in the biennial event’s first staging in 2014. Ha Na Jang was the first alternate for Team Korea but will not be able to compete.
“After the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, I met with doctors and my medical team and they strongly recommended rest for my left thumb injury to heal,” Park said in a statement. “In addition, the UL International Crown is currently one month away and I’m uncertain my injury would heal within that time frame. Therefore, with my unfortunate injury conditions, I am sad to say I cannot commit to UL International Crown this year and giving an opportunity to one of my Korean colleagues seemed more appropriate.”
Shiho Oyama of Japan will be replaced by Ai Suzuki after withdrawing due to a back injury and Simin Feng will compete for Team China after Shi Yuting withdrew due to a schedule conflict.
Substitutions will not be allowed once pairings are published on Tuesday, July 19 for the first round of matches.
